List of legendary items in the Fire Emblem series
Legendary items (Japanese: 神器 divine weapon) are frequent elements of stories in the Fire Emblem series. These items typically possess immense power compared to normal items, are plot-critical, and become available to the player late in the course of a game's events. Such weapons are also often referred to as regalia or divine weapons, and some specific groups have their own unique collective name.
Common traits
Legendary weapons are typically important to the story or backstory of a game and are often associated with a hero or line of heroes. They are generally regarded as treasures by the contemporary nations that claim them, usually descendants of the heroes who originally used them.
Most protagonists and many significant antagonists have a legendary weapon as a personal weapon. Most legendary weapons require a very high weapon level to use. Some legendary weapons, such as the Heroes' Relics, have relatively low durability; others, such as Falchion, are unbreakable. Legendary weapons often provide stat boosts to their wielders—in some games, all legendary weapons provide a stat boost. Legendary weapons cannot be forged, and either cannot be sold or are sold for 0 gold.
In the Super Famicom, Game Boy Advance, and Nintendo DS games, many legendary weapons have a unique cosmetic effect: when a unit is using a legendary weapon in battle, their attack is preceded by a bright, white flash and a chime. This is reserved primarily for the most significant weapons; for instance, in Shadow Dragon, Falchion will give off the flash while Excalibur will not.
List of legendary weapons
In Archanea and Ylisse
The Archanea series of games feature a set of weapons called the Three Regalia (Japanese: 三種の武器 Three Weapons), the potent weapons stolen and used by the ancient king Adrah to forge the Holy Kingdom of Archanea. These weapons are:
Gradivus The "lance that pierces stone" |
Mercurius The "spectral sword" |
Parthia The "flame bow" |
In the course of Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light and its various remakes, Parthia and Mercurius are gifted to Marth's army throughout the game's events, while Gradivus is obtained by defeating Camus. In Mystery of the Emblem Book II and its remake, the forces of the Holy Empire of Archanea use the Three Regalia against Marth's army, wielded by two of Hardin's most powerful lieutenants as well as Hardin himself, and Marth's army obtain them by vanquishing or recruiting these people.
The other primary, and perhaps more important, group of Archanean items is the pair of items left behind for humanity by Naga. Containing Naga's own power, these items are intended for humanity to use to defend itself from dragons.
Falchion The titular "blade of light" forged by the divine dragon Naga. Used by Marth throughout the games, and later by Chrom and Lucina. |
Fire Emblem / Binding Shield A shield harboring Naga's power, used to keep the earth dragons imprisoned in the Dragon Altar. Also used to perform the Awakening. |
Several other significant weapons exist in Archanea which are not part of these groups.
Hauteclere An axe of equal power to the Three Regalia, but with unknown origins. Wielded by Minerva. |
Excalibur A revered wind tome handed down through generations of Khadein sages. Wielded by Merric. |
Aura A revered light tome belonging to Linde. |
Starlight A holy tome forged from the power of the Starsphere and Lightsphere, its use was crucial to pierce the protective power of Imhullu and vanquish Gharnef. |
Imhullu A sinister dark tome forged from the Darksphere by the Dark Pontifex Gharnef. It renders its wielder immune to all damage from their enemies. |
Aum A staff with resurrection abilities. |
Awakening features legendary weapons from Archanea and other settings in the series, introducing only a small number in and of itself. All legendary items in Awakening share in common a sale price of 0 gold and an inability to be forged.
Parallel Falchion The form taken by the Falchion brought back in time by Lucina. |
Exalted Falchion The form taken by Chrom's Falchion after having its power unsealed by Naga. |
Amatsu A throwing sword belonging to Yen'fay of Chon'sin. |
Goetia The ultimate dark tome. |
Grima's Truth An unholy dark tome channeling Grima's power wielded by Validar. |
Sol A sword which bestows the Sol skill. |
Luna A lance which bestows the Luna skill. |
Vengeance An axe which bestows the Vengeance skill. |
Astra A bow which bestows the Astra skill. |
In Valentia
Fire Emblem Gaiden features two legendary swords.
Royal Sword A sword given to the Kingdom of Zofia by the neighboring Rigel as a symbol of friendship. |
Falchion A sword given to Rudolf by the fell god Duma to seal the earth goddess Mila. |
Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia includes both the above swords, as well as introducing the following:
Beloved Zofia A prized sword owned by the royal family of Zofia. |
Kriemhild A lance that came at a price. Exclusively wielded by Berkut when empowered by Duma. |
Gaiden features Gradivus as a unique weapon, but it is not explained to be significant. Shadows of Valentia features all of the Three Regalia of Archanea; they are obtained by evolving blessed weapons at a forge, and thus the player can obtain multiple copies of them. They may be sold and forged, unlike most legendary weapons.
In Jugdral
- Main article:
Holy Blood § Jugdral
Jugdral's primary legendary weapons are the thirteen weapons wielded by the Twelve Crusaders and their enemy, Loptous. All of these weapons were created when dragons underwent blood rites with humans, and at least as of the era of Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War and Thracia 776 are usable only by those who bear the weapon's matching holy bloodline.
Naga The most powerful of the Crusader weapons, gifted to Saint Heim by Naga. Property of the Belhalla royal family of Grannvale. |

Legendary Weapons
The eight legendary weapons (Japanese: 神将器 Divine Generals' Weapons) of Elibe were forged by humanity during the Scouring, in a bid to combat the overwhelming power of dragons. Their power was so immense that it twisted the laws of nature, causing the devastating Ending Winter. Accompanying them are two further weapons of equal or greater power which are not considered to be a formal part of the group of legendary weapons.
Binding Blade The first of Hartmut's two swords. |
Durandal Roland's "Blazing Blade". |
Armads Durban's "Thunder Axe". |
Forblaze Athos's "Infernal Truth". |
Aureola Elimine's "Glorious Ascension". |
Mulagir Hanon's "Bow of Swift Wind". |
Maltet Barigan's "Freezing Lance". |
Staff of the Saint Elimine's staff. Restores all HP to all allies. |
Apocalypse Bramimond's "Elder Revelation". |
Eckesachs The second of Hartmut's two swords. |
Outside these legendary weapons, several other significant weapons exist in Elibe. The mythology and traditions of Sacae prominently features a pair of spirit-infused blades, both of which were used by Lyn of the Lorca tribe to combat Lundgren and Nergal.
Mani Katti | Sol Katti |
In The Blazing Blade, another set of seven weapons appears in the Final Chapter, wielded by Nergal's morphs against Eliwood, Lyn and Hector. Unlike the legendary weapons they provide their wielders with no stat boosts, but nonetheless are immensely powerful. Nergal himself also wields a separate dark tome of unknown origin. With the exception of Excalibur, none of these would reappear after this game. These weapons were:
Regal Blade A blade wielded by the Lloyd morph. |
Rex Hasta A lance wielded by the Darin morph. |
Basilikos A axe wielded by the Brendan morph. |
Rienfleche A bow wielded by the Uhai morph. |
Excalibur A wind tome wielded by the Ursula morph. |
Luce A light wielded by the Kenneth morph. |
Gespenst A dark tome wielded by an anonymous morph Druid. |
Ereshkigal Nergal's dark tome. |
In Magvel

Sacred Twins
Magvel's set of legendary is known as the Sacred Twins (Japanese: 双聖器 Sacred Twins). These ten weapons were bestowed upon humanity in antiquity along with the Sacred Stones, and were used by Magvel's Five Heroes to defeat Fomortiis, the Demon King, and his monster hordes. Each of the heroes wielded two of these weapons, and each pair of weapons is referred to as a set of twins. With the exception of Gleipnir, all ten weapons are highly effective against monsters.
Sieglinde The Sacred Twin storm blade. Str +5. |
Siegmund The Sacred Twin fire lance. Str +5. |
Audhulma The Sacred Twin ice blade. Res +5. |
Vidofnir The Sacred Twin winged lance. Def +5. |

Like in Elibe, there is another weapon present which is exclusive to the game's main antagonist (in this case, Lyon) and is not considered part of the Sacred Twins.
Naglfar |
In Tellius
The primary set of legendary weapon in the mythology of Tellius is a pair of sacred swords belonging to the Begnion Empire. These two swords, blessed by the goddess Ashera, were used in antiquity by the heroine Altina to combat and imprison the "dark god".
Ragnell A supernatural sword blessed by the goddess Ashera. Only Ike can wield it. |
Alondite A mystic blade blessed by the goddess Ashera. It can attack from near and far. |
Aside from these two, multiple other weapons exist in Tellius, with mostly unclear origins; some of them are merely stated to be the work of a "master craftsman". These weapons are often wielded against Ike and Micaiah during their adventures, and they collect them both from their enemies and other sources as they proceed.
Vague Katti A unique and tremendously powerful sword. It is tremendously difficult to use. |
Wishblade A unique and tremendously powerful lance. It is incredibly difficult to use. |
Urvan A unique and tremendously powerful axe. It is incredibly difficult to use. |
Double Bow A unique and tremendously powerful bow. It is incredibly difficult to use. |
Baselard The ultimate dagger. It has a high chance of landing a critical hit. |
Rexflame Fire magic of the highest order. It is very effective against beast tribe laguz. |
Rexbolt Lightning magic of the highest order. It is very effective against wyvern and dragon tribe laguz. |
Rexcalibur Wind magic of the highest order. It is very effective against winged units. |
Rexaura Light magic of the highest order. It can only be wielded by those dedicated to serve good. |
Balberith Dark magic of the highest order. Few spellcasters can master the intricacies of these fell arts. |
Ashera Staff A staff that restores all HP to the target and restores the unit to normal condition. Raises the wielder's defense. |
Matrona A staff that restores all HP to a distant target. It also raises the target's biorhythm to its peak. |
The Kingdom of Daein has a group of three weapons of its own as national treasures, which were granted to Micaiah's closest allies by King Pelleas for use in the war against the Laguz Alliance. All three of these weapons are exclusive to international versions of Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, and so do not exist in the Japanese release.
Caladbolg A weapon given to the Dawn Brigade by Pelleas in reward for their service. For Edward only. |
Tarvos A weapon given to the Dawn Brigade by Pelleas in reward for their service. For Nolan only. |
Lughnasadh A weapon given to the Dawn Brigade by Pelleas in reward for their service. For Leonardo only. |
Several characters also wield their own weapons; many of these are the property of antagonists and are unusable by the player's party.
Amiti The royal blade of House Crimea. It can be used only by family members and strikes twice per turn. |
Gurgurant A mighty sword that only Ashnard, king of Daein, can wield. |
Cymbeline The ultimate fire magic. It is very effective against beast tribe laguz. Only Sanaki can wield it. |
Creiddylad Light magic of the highest order. Used only by those favored by the goddess. For Sephiran only. |
In Radiant Dawn, deviating from the norm, the player is actually allowed to sell legendary weapons, because on the first playthrough Balberith cannot be used in combat and even on repeat playthroughs, Ilyana is the only possible user of Rexbolt. Ragnell, Amiti, Cymbeline, the Daein gifts, and Alondite are exceptions, as they are exclusive weapons and not conventional legendary weapons (SS-level weapons). Path of Radiance prevents the sale of any such weapons.
In Hoshido and Nohr
In Hoshido and Nohr, there are five weapons known as the divine weapons. They are personal weapons of Corrin and the male royals of the two countries. Infinite Regalia

Infinite Regalia
Fire Emblem Awakening features a downloadable bonus chapter called Infinite Regalia, in which players have an opportunity to obtain three of the game's legendary weapons at random, receiving these from treasure chests under the guard of the Deadlords.
Trivia
- A few legendary weapons have made some appearances downgraded to common, non-legendary status in some Fire Emblem series games:
- Depending on appearance, Excalibur's status as a legendary weapon is dubious; however, it is clearly not in Gaiden, Shadows of Valentia, and Three Houses.
- Aura is a relatively common non-legendary weapon in all appearances outside the Archanea games.
- Awakening uses Rexcalibur as the B-level wind tome, a counterpart to Bolganone and Thoron; this was retained in Heroes.
- Gradivus, Mercurius, and Parthia appear as rare and powerful weapons in Echoes: Shadows of Valentia, although multiple copies can be obtained. They retain this role and are joined by Hauteclere in Three Houses.
